End-to-End Subsidy Support
If you live in Delhi and you’ve been hearing about PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana — but aren’t sure whether it’s real, how to apply, or who to trust — this is the one article you need to read before making any decision.
We are Himank Energies — A Unit of Shri Nath Trading Company, a government-empaneled solar vendor and official Havells System Integrator operating across Delhi NCR since 2021. We’ve helped hundreds of Delhi households go solar the right way — with full subsidy, zero hassle, and installations that last 25+ years. In this post, we’ll explain exactly what the scheme is, what you get, and how to make the most of it.
⚡ Quick numbers (as on June 2026)
74,44,296 applications received nationwide · 35,60,693 rooftop solar installations completed · 43,37,104 households already saving on electricity. The scheme closes on 31 March 2027 — less than 9 months remain.
What Is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar Scheme) is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India in February 2024 with a massive ₹75,021 crore outlay. Its goal is simple but transformative: install rooftop solar panels on 1 crore Indian homes and provide every participating household with up to 350 units of free electricity every month.
The scheme is not a loan. It is not a subscription. The government directly subsidises the cost of your rooftop solar system — and the electricity your panels generate powers your home for the next 25 years, almost entirely free.
🏛️ Official Scheme Name
Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Launched by: Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India
Implementing portal: pmsuryaghar.gov.in
Scheme end date: 31 March 2027
How Does the PM Surya Ghar Scheme Work?
The scheme works on a simple three-part logic: the government pays a large chunk of the installation cost upfront as a subsidy, your home generates its own electricity from the sun, and any surplus electricity you generate goes back to the grid — and you get credited for it on your bill.
Here’s the flow in plain language:
- 1You register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your electricity consumer number and basic details.
- 2Your electricity distribution company (DISCOM) — in Delhi, that’s BSES or TPDDL — approves your application for net metering.
- 3You select a government-empaneled solar vendor (like us) to install the system on your rooftop.
- 4Installation is completed. A net meter is fitted that tracks how much electricity you consume vs. how much your panels produce.
- 5The central government subsidy — up to ₹78,000 — is directly credited to your bank account within 30 days of installation.
- 6From day one, your solar panels generate electricity. Your monthly bill drops dramatically — often to zero.
How Much Subsidy Will You Get?
This is the part most people get confused about. The subsidy is calculated based on the capacity of the solar system you install, not your electricity bill amount. Here is the official subsidy structure:
| System Size | Central Subsidy | Free Units / Month | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 | ~100 units | 1–2 BHK, low usage |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | ~200 units | 2–3 BHK, average usage |
| 3 kW ⭐ | ₹78,000 | ~350 units | 3–4 BHK, higher usage (Most Popular) |
| Above 3 kW | ₹78,000 (capped) | 350+ units | Large homes, commercial |
💰 Real savings example — 3 kW system in Delhi
Average installation cost for 3 kW in Delhi: ~₹1,50,000
Government subsidy: ₹78,000
Your actual out-of-pocket cost: ~₹72,000
Monthly electricity bill saving (at ₹8/unit): ~₹2,400/month
Payback period: 2.5 – 3 years · System life: 25+ years
Who Is Eligible for PM Surya Ghar Scheme?
The scheme is open to all Indian residential households. For Delhi residents specifically, here’s a quick eligibility checklist:
- You must be a residential electricity consumer with an active connection from BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, or Tata Power Delhi.
- Your home must have a suitable rooftop (minimum ~10 sq. metres of shadow-free space for a 1 kW system).
- The electricity connection must be in your name or that of a family member.
- You must not have previously availed rooftop solar subsidy under any government scheme.
- No income limit — the scheme is for all households, regardless of income level.
🏢 Housing Societies in Delhi
Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and group housing societies can also apply under this scheme for their common areas — rooftops of common buildings, community halls, parking areas, and more. The economics are even better for societies given the scale. Contact us for a dedicated society proposal.
Why an Empaneled Vendor Matters — and Why We Are Different
This is the single most important decision in the entire process. Delhi has seen a surge of solar vendors since the scheme launched — many of them unregistered, unqualified, and offering substandard panels that won’t survive two monsoons. Only government-empaneled vendors are authorised to install systems eligible for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy.
If you go with a non-empaneled installer, here’s what happens: your system gets installed, but the subsidy is never released. Your net metering application gets rejected. You’ve paid full price and gotten none of the government benefit.
We are officially empaneled with MNRE and registered with Delhi’s DISCOMs. Every installation we do is subsidy-eligible, documented, and warrantied.

Common Myths About PM Surya Ghar Yojana — Busted
“The subsidy takes years to come.”
With an empaneled vendor and complete documentation, the subsidy arrives within 30 days of net meter activation. Delays happen only when paperwork is incomplete — which is our job to prevent.
“I live in a flat — I can’t apply.”
Flats in independent buildings can apply if the building owner or RWA consents. Group housing societies can apply for common area installations. Call us and we’ll assess your specific situation.
“Solar doesn’t work in Delhi’s winter/foggy months.”
Modern solar panels generate electricity even in diffused light. While output is lower in peak fog, annual generation averages are well within acceptable ranges for Delhi’s climate. The system is designed for annual net savings, not just peak summer output.
“My roof is too small.”
A 1 kW system needs just about 10 sq. metres of usable rooftop space. Even urban terraces often qualify. We do a free site inspection before any commitment.
“I’ll have to pay the full cost upfront.”
We offer flexible payment options. You typically pay post-installation, and the subsidy amount offsets a major portion. MNRE-approved collateral-free loans are also available for the balance amount through empaneled banks.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the last date to apply for PM Surya Ghar Yojana?
The scheme is currently open until 31 March 2027. However, given the high demand and DISCOM processing timelines, we strongly recommend applying at least 3–4 months before the deadline to ensure your installation and subsidy release are completed in time.
How much will my electricity bill actually come down?
For a 3 kW system in Delhi, most households see their monthly bill drop to near-zero or even receive bill credits. Exact savings depend on your current consumption, roof orientation, and DISCOM tariff slab. Our free site assessment includes a personalised savings estimate.
Is PM Surya Ghar available for Delhi apartments?
Yes, but with conditions. Individual apartments in a multi-storey building need the building owner or RWA’s consent for rooftop access. RWAs themselves can apply for common rooftop installations. We handle all of this — contact us with your building details.
What happens if the portal is slow or I can’t register online?
As an empaneled vendor, we can guide you through the registration process step by step — or in some cases, assist with assisted registration. Don’t let a slow website stop you from claiming your subsidy. Call us directly.
How do I verify that Himank Energies is a genuine empaneled vendor?
You can verify our empanelment directly on the official PM Surya Ghar portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in by searching for Himank Energies / Shri Nath Trading Company in the Delhi vendor list. We are also registered with BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, and Tata Power Delhi for net metering, and are an official Havells System Integrator.
What warranty comes with the solar panels?
We install only DCR (Domestic Content Requirement) compliant, Tier-1 solar panels that come with a 25-year linear performance warranty from the manufacturer and a 10-year product warranty. Our own workmanship warranty covers installation for 5 years, with optional AMC plans.
